Adult Spirituality Retreat
The Archdiocese of Detroit Office for Black Catholic Ministries is sponsoring an Adult Spirituality Retreat November 1 - 3, 2002, at the St. John Conference Center in Plymouth, Michigan. The theme of this event is "
Unlocking Our Spiritual Heritage …Reclaiming the Fire." The retreat will include worship, the sacrament of reconciliation, reflection, a guest speaker, videos, and fellowship. Registration prices are $105 for single occupancy; 95$ for double occupancy; and $50 for commuters. Meals will be provided. Harambee Bakijana Young Adult Retreat
The Bowman Francis Project will host it’s first annual Harambee Bakijana Young Adult Retreat in Jacksonville, Florida October 11-13, 2002 at the Adams Mark Hotel Downtown. The theme of this event is, "
You Have Heard the Call...Now What Are You Going to Do?" The purpose of the retreat is to bring together young adults aged 19-35 for a weekend of workshops on being single, marriage and family, vocations, and spirituality. Participants will have the opportunity to network with other young adults across the country for fellowship, Bible Study and to share best practices in young adult ministry from their parishes. Registration is $75, which includes all retreat materials and the luncheon. Hotel accommodations can be made by calling 904.633-9095.

2003 White Antiracist Convention
An exciting gathering of White leaders will take place on November 15 and 16, 2002, in New Orleans to begin planning a White Antiracist Convention in 2003. The Steering Committee and Advisory Council members are seeking about 50 antiracist Caucasians from around the country. This will be their initial planning meeting. Perhaps you know someone who would be interested in attending.
Both the 2003 White Antiracist Convention and the November 15-16, 2002 Planning meeting have been called by Jeff Hitchcock and a few national antiracists who have been active leaders in white antiracist gatherings over recent years. The national steering committee includes Ron Chisom, Diana Dunn and David Billings. An Advisory Council set up to guide the planning process, includes European Dissent members in New Orleans. Anyone interested in participating in this November 15-16 planning session will need to notify the staff at the People's Institute and register with Jeff Hitchcock directly. The November event will take place at St. Marks Community Center located at 1130 N. Rampart Street, New Orleans, LA. European Dissent says this is on the edge of the French Quarter with several inexpensive hotels and restaurants close by. Margery Freeman, of European Dissent, can assist travelers in locating lodging, or even homes for folks to stay in. Her email is

Blessed Sacrament Cathedral
Afternoon Bible School classes take place every Monday evening at 4:00 p.m. All are invited to attend.

The annual
Candlelight Celebration will take place on November 9 and 10, 2002. The celebration consists of an after-five dinner dance Saturday evening at the Roostertail featuring a live band, a silent auction, and a 10:00 a.m. Mass celebration on Sunday. Tickets are $100 per person and $75 for senior citizens. Souvenir Booklet adds are currently being sold and are due by Sunday, October 20, 2002. For more information please call 313.868.4308.The 2nd annual Nigerian Thanksgiving Mass will take place Sunday, November 24th. The Mass celebration will reflect traditional Nigerian culture and include customary dance, music, and the offering of personal gifts during the Offertory. Immediately following the Mass, traditional ethnic dishes will be served, and an auction of Nigerian goods will take place in the church hall. Proceeds will be donated to the church.

Flu Shots
A Visiting Nurse Association, Flu-Busters will administer flu shots on October 27, 2002, at the Church of the Madonna 10:30 -11:30 a.m., and at St. Gregory the Great, 9:30 -10:30 a.m. The cost is $15 or free with Medicare, Part B. The Pneumonia Vaccine will also be available at a cost of $25, or free with Medicare, Part B.
A yearly flu shot is recommended for persons aged 50 years and older; health care workers and residents of long-term care facilities; individuals with chronic diseases of the lungs, heart or kidneys, and those who have diabetes, a weakened immune system, or who are in their second or third trimester of pregnancy during the influenza season. Each person will be screened to ensure that he or she does not have any condition that would exclude them from receiving an inoculation.
