February 97

The parish-focused evangelization process begins with a parish "Day of Reflection
Evangelization: A Millennium Companion." Using the Congress VIII model, the Congress
Implementation Committees will involve the present Millennium. From this "Day of Reflection,"
the attendees will be selected as the Parish Evangelization Team. The members of the Parish
Evangelization Team will sign the "Covenant of Commitment to Evangelize" between (1) the
Pastoral Team Leader, (2) the President of the Parish Council and (3) each attendee selected for
the Congress VIII experience. The "Covenant" along with the "Leadership Profile" on each
member of the Parish Evangelization Team will be sent to the Black Catholic Ministries Office by
February 15.

March 15

The Archdiocesan-wide "Day of Reflection" will be held with the attendees designated by the
parish and covenanted to the two year process. This day is a demanded requirement by Congress
VIII's national planners for anyone who will attend the Congress; whether lay or clergy; attendee
or observer.

April - May - June

In cases where the Congress VIII "Day of Reflection" at the parish level scheduled for February
did not occur, these months provide an opportunity to gather the parish around the two year
process. However, the requirement for attendance for March 15 still stands and that day of
Reflection will not be repeated.
Parishes and Evangelization Teams will participate in the City-Wide annual "Swing into
Spring Revival" this April 14 through 17. The theme of the Revival is the same as the Congress
VIII, "The Evangelization of the African American Family." Our Revivalist will be Fr. James
Goode, OFM, Ph.D., the founder of the National Day of Prayer for the African American Family.
The National Day of Prayer for the African American Family is February 2.
